Customer service comes first
DeutschTek Automotive was created in 2024, set out to establish an alternative to the big dealerships, for Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, Skoda and New Mini, in the South East of Melbourne and West Gippsland. Frustrated by the lack of good old-fashioned customer service and quality workmanship in the industry, the founder Rod decided to establish his own.
Starting his career as an apprentice mechanic in 2007 and after working for an independent VW specialist, Rod began to admire the quality of German design. After completing his apprenticeship, he then worked at various dealerships, and Rod got a bad taste of the pushy sales tactics and customers’ issues not getting resolved. Rod then moved to a large automotive chain as a store Manager in 2017, in an affluent suburb of Melbourne, and there was a lot of German luxury cars in that area. It was here that Rod decided these brands were his interest and intended on pursuing a career specialising in these brands. It was also here, that Rod perfected his management and customer service style. He was popular with the customers there and realised that customers were weary of false promises and pushy sales tactics, and that all people want is good old-fashioned service and to do what you say you’re going to do! However, while Rod consistently provided good sales and profit margins for the company, Head office thought sales could be even better, and Rod was consistently under pressure to enforce these “pushy sales tactics”
In 2019 Rod founded his first automotive shop, which later started to specialise in European cars and initially, it became a roaring success. Rod wasn’t quite prepared for the success he received, having limited recourses and space to grow the business to its potential, and with Covid 19 on the horizon it seemed the timing wasn’t right either. Rod was able to sell the business and after the sale, Rod moved to the South-Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, and un-deterred by this false start, soon began planning for DeutschTek Automotive, and in 2024, Rod decided that it was time to start DeutschTek Automotive – German Car Specialist.
